Chiropractic
adjustments
After detailed examination and imaging our doctors
use manual adjusting techniques of the spine and
extremities to improve the range of motion of
restricted joints. Our adjustments are safe, gentle
and specific and occur as part of an overall plan
that includes our other therapy modalities.
Adjustments help to decrease your pain, restore your
normal movement and improve your spinal balance. |

Spinal Decompression Therapy |
|
| |
|
We’re thrilled to now be able to offer our patients
this advanced treatment, with Finn Chiropractic
Group being the only local chiropractor certified in
the Kennedy Decompression Technique. Spinal
Decompression Therapy is safe and effective for
treating conditions such as neck and low back pain,
disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and sciatica.
It’s a non-surgical, traction-based treatment that
relieves pressure on the spine by stretching and
decompressing the discs. Patients, fitted with
pelvic and thoracic harnesses, lie on a computerized
controlled table. Most patients find the sessions,
which last about 20-30 minutes, to be comfortable.
Treatment typically involves 8-12 sessions, with
many patients reporting pain relief after the first
few sessions. |
|
| |
|
Individuals who could potentially benefit from this
therapy are those who |
|
| |
|
-
experience chronic back pain
-
suffer from failed back surgery
syndrome
-
have bulging or herniated discs
-
have been diagnosed with facet
syndrome, sciatica or lumbar degenerative disk
disease
|
|
| |
|
Some people are not good candidates for this
therapy, including those who |
|
| |
|
-
are pregnant
-
have suffered a new vertebra
fracture
-
have titanium rods in their back
-
have been diagnosed with pelvic
or abdominal cancer
-
have been diagnosed with severe
osteoporosis

Rehabilitation
Our rehabilitation program has been designed
to help you resume your normal daily
activities as quickly and safely as
possible. Whether your life entails bending
down to pick up your child, running a
marathon or working long hours at a
computer, your injury can have a profound
impact on your ability to perform at your
best. Your rehab plan will be specifically
designed for you and is a blend of
stretching, balance training, strength
training, Swiss ball work, yoga and pilates.
As you progress through our three phase
program we will begin to incorporate home
exercises into your in-office plan, helping
you gain independence and readying you for
your release date. Our doctors will also
make recommendations on proper nutrition and
supplements you can take to accelerate the
healing process and to improve your health
overall. |

Flexion Distraction
Flexion-Distraction, (F/D) is a gentle, chiropractic
treatment procedure utilized for back and neck pain.
Flexion-Distraction is a safe alternative to back
surgery for those 95% of patients whose conditions
do not demand surgical intervention. The doctor is
in control of the treatment movements at all times.
|
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
For disc related conditions,
F/D increases the intervertebral disc height to
remove annular tension on the annular fibers and
nerve by making more room and improving circulation.
This allows the nucleus pulposus, the center of the
disc, to assume its central position within the
annular fibers and relieves irritation of the spinal
nerve. It also restores vertebral joints to their
physiological relationships of motion, and improves
posture and locomotion while relieving pain,
improving body functions, and creating a state of
well-being. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
For patients with other
conditions causing back pain (facet syndrome,
spondylolisthesis, sprain/strain, scoliosis,
transitional vertebra, sacroiliac restrictions and
misalignment, certain types of spinal stenosis), F/D
provides all of the above benefits plus the ability
to place the spinal joints into normal, painless
movements so as to restore spinal motion without
pain: |
|
| |
|
-
The posterior disc space
increases in height
-
Decreases disc protrusion
and reduces stenosis
-
Stretches the ligamentum
flavum to reduce stenosis
-
Opens the vertebral canal by 2 mm
(16%)
-
Increases metabolite transport
into the disc
-
Opens the apophyseal joints and
reduces posterior disc stress
-
Intervertebral foraminal openings
enlarge giving patency to nerves
|
|
| |
|
Flexion-Distraction is
utilized for many conditions such as:
|
|
| |
|
-
Failed Back surgical Syndromes
-
Disc Herniation/Ruptured Disc /
Bulging Disc / Herniated Disc
-
Sciatica / Leg pain
-
Stenosis
-
Failed course of Steroid
Injections OR in conjunction with injections
-
Chemical Radiculitis
-
Spondylolisthesis
-
Transitional segment
-

Trigger Point and
Manual Soft Tissue Therapy
Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy is a proven
technique used for the relief of soft-tissue pain
and dysfunction. Myofascial trigger points represent
a major cause of sustained pain and dysfunction.
Extensive research and practice shows that all
chronic pain conditions produce trigger points.
|
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
Myofascial trigger points
represent small areas of tightness within muscles,
creating tight bands and "knots" or tiny bumps from
the contracted muscle fibers. Current literature
indicates that nerve impulses to these muscle fibers
will not "shut off" and that myofascial trigger
points require some form of manual intervention to
help them release. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
All trigger points cause
discomfort when pressed; however, "active" trigger
points frequently refer pain to other areas of the
body. As a result, many therapists address the site
of the pain, or the symptoms of trigger points,
rather than the real problem area, or the site of
the trigger point. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
Pressure to an active trigger
point will typically refer the sensation or symptoms
to a distinct and predictable target area. In
addition to pain, the effects of an active trigger
point can include: |
|
| |
|
-
Limited range of motion
-
Muscle weakness
-
Numbness or tingling
|
|
| |
|
Since an active trigger point
refers pain to reference sites, it may invoke
satellite, or secondary trigger points. As a result,
acute conditions tend to turn chronic, and chronic
conditions tend to get worse over time.
